Key Performance Area

Main Activities

Office Management


  • Review/monitor monthly safety messages, Self-Assessments and Navigation Audit Reports from vessels to ensure that areas of concerns are promptly taken up with concerned Engineer Superintendent.


  • Monitor and respond to various safety inputs from Master in order to ensure the safe and environmentally-friendly operation of each ship within the Company’s fleet


  • Upkeep of database for Self-Assessments, nav-audits, SIRE inspection, accident/incidents and periodically analyse.
  • Run safety campaigns designed on trends resulting from above analysis.


  • All other activities such as issuing Safety Flash, share best practices, briefing of new joiners,


  • Upkeep and management of Environment and Energy Management System for continued compliance with ISO 14001 and 50001.

Third Party Vessel Inspection Management


  • Set up third party inspections and provide pre-vetting support to Masters where required.


  • Oil major inspection deficiencies analysis, identification of root cause, corrective & preventive actions, and submit response to oil major for eventual close out of the inspection process.


  • OCIMF & CDI changes analysed and areas for change(s) in SMS identified and acted upon.


  • Periodical analysis of third party inspection performance.

Ship Visits


  • Provide pre-vetting support to Master to prepare for inspection/audit.


  • Implement the International Safety Management (ISM) Code on new vessels joining Mideast fleet.


  • Join ships for short sea passages as directed by the HSSEQ Manager in order to conduct inspections, audits (such as, inter alia, Safety Inspection, Navigation Audit, ISM & ISO Audit, ISPS Audit).

Incident Investigations


  • Participate in investigation of accidents/incidents which fall in categories requiring investigation to be headed by HSSEQ.


  • Assist HSSEQ Manager in collating all necessary information for the investigation report.

Audit Management


  •   Conduct Navigation Audits to ensure safe navigational practices are in place.


  • Organise external navigation audits.


  • Review Navigation Audit and Self-Assessment reports from Masters in order to identify/ summarise non-conformance and pass on to concerned departments for close out; and maintain Nav-Audit database on audit findings for periodic study of trends.
  • Conduct internal audits (ship and shore-office) as required.


  • Coordinate and interact with external maritime authorities, auditors and/or any other supervisory bodies, providing all the required information, in order to support the effective and objective execution of external audits.

        Assist in closure of all audit processes.

Ship-Shore Drills


  • Active participant in drills and, where required, organise drill procedure to ensure familiarity with role.
  • Assist in drill scenario building.

Risk Assessments


  • Identify and analyse risks associated with the company’s HSSEQ processes in order to enable management to act proactively in reducing unfavourable results, thus contributing to the effective and efficient operation of the Company and the enhancement of the seafarers’ and environment protection.


  • Participate in periodical review of risk assessments.

Document Control


  • Support the identification of changes in SMS required as a result of:


  • Suggestions from Masters
  • Procedure Change requests from dept Managers


  • New legislations


  • Requirements from stakeholders such as oil majors, chemical industry, etc


  • Adoption of best industry practices


  • Accident/incident investigations, third party findings, internal & external audits


  • Outcome of ship-shore drills


  • Assist HSSEQ Manager with revisions of SMS procedures / manuals
